Our Thoughts on the CMA Review — and What We’re Already Doing at Passey Place Vets
You might have seen recent news about the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) review into the veterinary sector. It’s raised a lot of questions about transparency, ownership, and pricing in vet practices — and we wanted to share our thoughts, and reassure our clients about how we already do things here at Passey Place Vets.
We’re 100% Independent
Passey Place Vets is proudly independent and owned by Dr Sinclair, who also works daily in the practice. That means every decision we make is about what’s best for our patients and clients — not shareholders.
We know who we are, who we work for, and why we do it.
Fair and Transparent Pricing
We completely support the CMA’s push for more transparency in pricing — it’s something we’ve always believed in.
Our written prescription charge is already below the CMA’s suggested cap, and we actively encourage clients to shop around for medication if it’s cheaper elsewhere. (Yes, we’ll tell you if you can get it online for less!)
We know some online retailers can sell medications cheaper than we can even buy them wholesale, and that’s okay — our job is to help you make informed choices, not to sell you things you don’t need.
Supporting You to Do What’s Best for Your Pet
We always discuss your pet’s care options openly, explain why we recommend certain treatments, and make sure you understand the costs before we go ahead.
We also offer written prescriptions, transparent treatment estimates, and honest advice about when medications or tests can be bought or done elsewhere.
Putting Pets and People First
We completely agree with the CMA that pet owners should have choice, clarity, and confidence when it comes to veterinary care.
That’s why we already:
-
Publish clear pricing
-
Offer flexibility with medications
-
Keep our fees as fair and realistic as possible
-
Stay transparent about ownership and who’s caring for your pet
Our Promise
For us, nothing changes with this review — it simply highlights the kind of honest, open, and fair approach we’ve always stood by.
At Passey Place Vets, your pet’s wellbeing comes first, always. We’re proud to be local, independent, and trusted by our community — and that’s exactly how we plan to stay.
